Adobe InDesign

Basics & Beyond

InDesign is fast becoming the most popular layout application for magazines, newspapers, books, newsletters, and marketing mailers—as well as for the web—in the world. In this class, students learn to understand the InDesign interface, workspace, and tools—and to build layouts with text, photos, tables, tabs, shapes and lines, focusing on typography for maximum message impact. Students learn to make text and graphic elements work together, focusing on text wrap, overlap, and alignment and distribution tools for a clean, legible layout that helps convey a professional message. Students also learn to create and apply masters, insert symbols and markers, develop tables of contents and indexes, and build a complex, multi-page document with varying page sizes, layouts, and elements. The use of libraries and color is also a focus. Design and composition techniques are explained, along with the InDesign tools to accomplish successful layout goals.
